Located in the center of Korea, Daejeon is one of the largest cities. Daejeon has a pivotal function as the second administrative capital of Korea. It is Korea’s hub of national defense and is an international and innovative city with a high priority on science and technology. 

 

The brand ‘It’s Daejeon’ has been developed to build the image of Daejeon City as the center of the culture, economy and science and to enhance the recognition of Daejeon through the differentiation against the competitive cities in the city management strategy for the 21st century that is the age of image competition and intercity competition beyond competition among countries.

 

10 Attractions of Daejeon

 
 
Experience the world full of fun and wonder in O-World. This is the integrated theme park that combines Joo Land, Flower Land and Joy Land pleasures that all the family can enjoy. It integrated the Deajeon Zoo that opened May 5, 2002 and Flower Land which opened May 1, 2009. The result was a park with a total 682,830㎡ (Zoo: 583,057㎡ + Flower Land: 99,773㎡) - the biggest theme park in the middle of South Korea.
 
 
The Ppuri Park is a great place to learn loyalty and filial piety with sculptures that symbolize a family name to make people aware of their pedigree and realize that they are the descendents of the Korean race. This park features a variety of facilities including a sculpture of family name, Sasindo (the painting of four gods) and Sibijiji (the twelve terrestrial branches)-shaped spring water, waterside stage on which various events are held, the turfgrass square, observatory, octagonal pavilion, recreational forest and the nature observation garden.
 
 
Along with the Gyejoksan Premium 100-ri Forest Trail, this beautiful trail is found in Jang-dong Recreational Forest. Visitors can take a pleasant barefoot walk along this 13km-long loess trail from spring to fall. The Masai Marathon, the Barefoot Hwangtogil Walkathon and the International Installation Art Contest are held every May.
 
 
This arboretum is located in the center part of the Deajeon Government Complex and the Expo Science Park. This is the mecca of culture and art that embraces the Deajeon Art Center, Pyeongsong Youth Cultural Center, City Art Musuem, and the Lee Eungno Gallery. Each is in harmony with the arboretum. The Hanbat Arboretum inside the city center is the biggest man-made arboretum.
 
 
For Deajeon Expo, a total 180 billion won was invested. 33 came from international organizations. 108 countries participated and 14 billion visitors witnessed this event.
 
 
Deacheong Lake was formed in 1980 when the Deacheon Dam was completed. The lake provides Deajeon City and Cheongju City with drinking water, living water, and industrial water. It is known for its driving route along that small mountains which are located over 200∼300m sea level and beautiful shrubs. The Deacheong Lake is home to migratory birds and resident birds. In the summer, in the upper part of the Lake, white herons are easily seen.
 
 
Jangtesan Forest (300,000 pyeong) is the first recreation forest built by the private fund in South Korea. It has accommodation facilities, fish farm, deer farms, and a children’s playground. Every year many visitors enjoy the man-made forests and natural forests with 12km trails.
 
 
The Daejeon Art & Culture Complex is home to local art and culture, featuring the Daejeon Culture & Arts Center, the Daejeon Museum of Art and the Ungno Lee Museum of Art. The Art Hall can accommodate up to 1,546 guests and 300 performers on the stage. It is a general art & cultural space in which various performing arts such as grand opera, ballet and musical are held. 
 
 
Uineungjeongi Cultural Street was the Mecca of the government administration, business and traditional culture in the central region from the 1960s to the 1980s. Now, it is emerging as an art and cultural street. About 150 art and culture-related shops and facilities (ex: Gallery, performance theater, exhibition & performance facilities, atelier, ceramic shop, antique store, etc.) are clustered along this street. In addition, a variety of fun and exciting events such as the Uineungjeongi Festival, Youth Mime Festival and the Art and Cultural Street Festival are held on this street.
 
 
The Yuseong Hot Spring is located in Bomyeong-dong. According to legends, wounded soldiers of Baekje Dynasty were healed after taking a bath here.
